Every now and then, there’s a story to be had of a dream job—caretaker of a remote island, hermit near a Swiss village or the like—but there’s seldom one that lets you into a high-tech occupation with so little preparation as this one!
Highland and Island Airports is looking for an air traffic controller to live and work on the (very) remote island of Benbecula in the Outer Hebrides. While the job listing requires no prior experience, the salary starts low and only rises when the candidate is fully-qualified. All the usual perks are included, including a relocation allowance.
HiJobs, the agency responsible for the search says that there should be plenty of candidates because “almost three-quarters of Scots fantasize about starting a new life on Scotland’s stunning coast or countryside.” And Benbecola fits that bill: It’s known for white-sand beaches, clear seas and lochs, wild machair grasses and a wide array of birds, including eagles.
