Berlin gets better U.S. connections

Berlin is slowly getting more direct flights to U.S. cities, making it easier for U.S. passengers to get to the German capital without having to change planes somewhere along the way.

The latest additions come from two low-cost carriers, Norway-based Norse which has been running flights from Berlin to New York, and Play Air, an Icelandic carrier that will fly the route this winter, with a brief stop in Reykjavik. Norse’s flights will shift from New York to Miami for the winter season, and will return to New York in the summer.

Berlin has surprisingly few U.S. connections, especially when compared with other major European capitals such as London, Paris and Amsterdam, although demand for seats has grown over recent years. United has recently restored its Berlin to Washington, DC service after several years suspension, and code-shares with its Star Alliance partner Lufthansa on a New York to Berlin route. Delta also has a non-stop JFK-BER route.
