Colosseum shuts out ticket scalpers

Rome’s Colosseum, the ancient arena that is a top tourist attraction, has introduced a new ticket system to prevent the tickets meant for the public from disappearing into the hands of scalpers and tour operators.

Starting this week, all tickets will be printed with the purchaser’s name on them, similar to systems in place at sports events and concerts. Tickets will be available in that from from the Colosseum’s own website and at additional ticket booths being added at the site.

Officials said the move was intended to prevent mass buying of tickets by automated software, with the tickets then being sold at higher prices or as part of ‘skip the line’ deals.
