Got a pile of cash and an ambition to own your own city?
An abandoned Spanish village near the Portuguese border that was sold a year ago for €300,000 is back on the market already—but this time, the price is up to €850,000, even though no actual work has been done on a developer’s ambitious architectural project for the complete rehabilitation of the village, in part due to “some bureaucracy with the local authorities.”
Developer Oscar Torres is ready to sell Salto de Castro and there are already interested parties: an Arab group and an American group, according to Spanish puiblication Idealista. A spokesperson told Idealista that “For now, we have received offers from Saudi Arabia and the United States (specifically from a group in Miami)”. He added that they received offers of up to €600,000, so the price increase “is more than logical.” According to the owners, a license for rural tourism can be obtained for the project.
The village, next to a reservoir and bordering Portugal, has 44 houses, five of which are independent. It also has a bar, church and school with several classrooms, as well as a hostel with 14 rooms, a cafeteria and laundry room. There is also a former Civil Guard barracks, a swimming pool and sports areas.
