When I read a light show was being featured at Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center starting the day after Thanksgiving, I thought attending would be a great way to kick off the holiday season.
Well, yes and no.
As much as “Luminations” is enchanting and unusual, there isn’t a Santa or reindeer in sight. Instead, the gardens feature new-age music and art installations of a unique kind.
The website describes it this way: “Our glowing celebration of winter’s natural beauty returns this winter with all-new light installations. Inspired by the four elements — earth, air, fire, and water — this year’s exhibition spans nearly two miles of our Texas Arboretum, inviting you to immerse yourself in the season.”
Season means winter, not Christmas.
Seeing so many families enjoying an evening basking in the unusual atmosphere was joyful. After all, it is the season of light, promise, and beauty.
It all works…especially in Austin.
