The photo above shows a view of Ibiza town’s ‘Dalt Villa’—the fortified old town, dominated by its cathedral at the top of the hill. It was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status in 1999. Below are a couple of photos from within the town itself.
The cathedral (dedicated to ‘Our Lady of the Snows’) looks formidable from the outside, but the interior is not nearly as opulent as one might expect for a major Roman Catholic Church.
We actually found it somewhat disappointing—and a little odd.
The island of Ibiza is well known for its party and clubbing scene and the old town attracts a fair number of tourists. However, it is surprisingly easy to get away from the crowds.
Just around the corner from the busy main routes through the town we found very attractive and completely deserted areas, such as those shown below.
If you look hard enough, you can also find quirky cafés and bars that the crowds do not seem to have discovered yet.
I want to go! What a beautiful place. I love the photo of the stairs and flowers. Excellent post!
