Dublin’s Airport Authority has filed a formal application for growth that will allow it to handle up to 40 million passengers a year, a growth of about a third from present levels.
The airport is seeking a 15-year planning approval from the local county council for 11 project elements including expansion of plane parking areas, increased search and security space in Terminal 1, more apron space and a variety of smaller items.
Dublin has seen an increase in passengers with the arrival of more flight connections to the U.S. and to Europe, and the authority says that not improving the airport, or limiting traffic would have a serious effect on the area’s economy.
