Breeze adds San Diego, more routes

Breeze Airways, the rapidly-expanding budget startup, has added a fifth California city to its network and stocked it with five new routes, as well as adding a few others elsewhere.

The San Diego flights are all relatively long-haul, providing non-stop connections to eastern cities, starting with Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina April 30, followed by Jacksonville, Florida, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Norfolk, Virginia. Four of the five routes have no competition, while Frontier plans a summer schedule to Pittsburgh. Introductory fares start at $59.

The routes fit with the airline’s strategy of building a network of nonstop routes connecting secondary cities that the larger network carriers don’t fly to, or only offer connecting flights to larger hubs.

Breeze is also adding three other new routes, connecting Westchester County, New York to Raleigh-Durham; Cincinnati to Hartford and Charleston, South Carolina to Los Angeles.
