Silicon Valley’s Birthplace in Palo Alto

In 1938 William Packard and Bill Hewlett, following the advice of their Stanford professor, went into William’s garage (shown here) in Palo Alto, California, and built their first product—an audio oscillator that was quickly bought up by Walt Disney to test speakers in movie theaters booked to show Fantasia.

By the 1960’s the company was building computers, and their company laid the foundation of Silicon Valley in the Palo Alto area.
