While visiting the National Coach Museum in Belem, we came across this interesting piece of art hanging in one of the elevator lobbies. I spent a few moments studying it from different angles. I hope you can appreciate from the photos in this post that while at a distance it appears flat, the work has an intricate three-dimensional construction.
It was crafted by Vhils in 2022 and is named Petra because it is made of stone. The artist constructed this interesting figure using four different types of Portuguese marble. The piece weighs an impressive 380 kg (about 835 lbs). I really like the final result.
