This is probably the most photographed (and beautiful) castle in Scotland. You’ve likely seen Eilean Donan in movies such as “Highlander“. A number of castles have stood on this island for over 1500 years, this newest version having been partially destroyed by a Jacobite uprising in 1719. The castle was restored in the early 20th century, and it’s now a popular tourist attraction.
When we visited the weather was typical of the Scottish Highlands in summer namely cold, windy and wet. Still, it was a captivating spot that to me captures the essence of the Highlands.
