Hilton, one of the big names in indoor lodging has struck up a partnership with a big name in outdoor lodging, AutoCamp. Under the deal, Autocamp’s locations will be bookable through Hilton’s reservation system, and Hilton loyalty members will be able to ‘earn and burn’ points at the locations.
AutoCamp, which specializes in locations near national parks and other popular outdoor destinations, provides lodging for guests in a variety of accommodations including Airstream trailers, with which the company has a partnership, cabins and luxury tents. It also operates at each site a couple of restaurants and a general store to sell supplies for campers and grillers.
The AutoCamp deal is one of several new directions for Hilton, which has been criticized for not having a variety of products to keep its loyalists loyal. In recent months it wooed Small Luxury Hotels of the World, winning the partnership away from Hyatt, and is working on launching a new ‘luxury lifestyle brand.’ As well, it’s reported trying to buy Graduate Hotels, a chain of lifestyle hotels that emphasizes locations in areas where educational institutions are thick on the ground.
