I am drawn to cruising because I can go into the communities on an excursion or on my own. I recently cruised on Norwegian Cruise Line Jewel in Southeast Asia.
This day, as part of an organized excursion, I am in a village near Nhu Trang, Vietnam, with a small group of like-minded tourists.
We visited a Buddhist temple, a community center, a marketplace, a rural community home, and a dried squid factory.
Everyone we met was welcoming and wanted to talk with us as we went from site to site. They were willing to explain their lives and surroundings through the interpretation of our guide, or they spoke English.
