Besides loving to travel, I also have a hobby of locating and photographing abandoned sites. I do a lot in Europe but using Google maps and satellite views.
These photos are of an abandoned railway line that ran near my home outside the small village of Carrysbrook Virginia. A very few small sections were made into hiking trails, but other places where the rail lines were removed are still unexplored.
This is one of them and there are no warning signs. It follows a trail through the dense forest and then stops at a partly removed iron bridge over the Rivanna River.
There are many old remnants of the rail lines lying rusted on the sides of the path. The bridge was extremely high and when approaching the bridge I found a very high and scary steep drop.
I attempted to investigate from the other side of this bridge, but there were many warning signs of private property and no trespassing, so I stopped my attempt to follow the trail from that side.
