Avelo, one of the two surviving and apparently thriving 2021 airline startups is finally flying to its headquarters city in Houston. Up to now, the Texas city has been missing from its map but not its letterhead.
The flight to Houston will be from New Haven, a focus city for Avelo, and one of two where it is the only scheduled airline (Wilmington, Delaware is the other). The route will launch in June, along with service from New Haven to St Louis and to Traverse City, Michigan.
While none of those routes will be competitive, that’s not the case at one of its West Coast bases, Santa Rosa, California, where Alaska Airlines is adding a flight to Las Vegas, competing with an Avelo route. Alaska has long been the dominant carrier at Santa Rosa, but Avelo has recently added a clutch of new routes from there.
