Most often, references to a zebra crossing are about a striped crosswalk for pedestrian safety, but on one U.S. roadway last Monday, it meant that the pedestrians were zebras, and they were definitely NOT crossing at the corner.
On Interstate 90, near North Bend Washington, the four zebras, three adults and a colt, broke loose from the trailer they were being transported in when the driver stopped to secure the doors. They were on their way to Montana.
After cavorting on the highway for a while, they headed into town, where they held up more traffic and wandered through back yards. Three were on the loose for about two hours before being recaptured; one adult was still on its own at the end of the day Monday
