Clear, the privately-run expedited security program that operates at airports and some sports venues, is now a TSA enrollment provider, allowing customers to sign up for both programs at once. For some travelers, it will actually be a money-saver.
TSA’s PreCheck program already has two private companies, Idemia and Telos, managing its enrolment and renewal programs. With Clear, customers will fill separate applications for both, maintaining privacy between the two programs.
PreCheck costs $78 for a five-year term, while Clear charges $189 a year. Clear is offering a bundle for $199.95 which includes five years of PreCheck and one year of Clear. Since a number of travel credit cards include either a full payment or discount for Clear’s $189 fee, the bundle could be a bargain for those card-holders.
Clear is taking application online and at three of its airport locations—New York/Newark, Orlando and Sacramento—and will be adding more location as the program rolls out.
