The small town of Lone Pine is perhaps best known as the Gateway to Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states and a popular hiking and backpacking destination, as are the nearby Cottonwood Lakes. It is also home to the Alabama Hills, a well-known setting for films.
