U.S. travel to Europe still on sharp rise

It’s still only spring, but it appears that this summer will be a boom time for American tourism in Europe, with predictions that 34% more Americans may make the trip than last year.

The prediction comes from a source that has a special advance look: Allianz, one of the leading vendors of travel insurance, including policies sold through airlines. As people make their reservations, sales of travel insurance follow the same curve.

Analyzing itineraries for trips of five to eight days staring between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Allianz is predicting that the top three destinations for this year will keep their rankings from last: London, Paris and Dublin. After that, there is some place-swapping and a couple of returns or newcomers. Milan and Lisbon slipped below #10, with Barcelona rejoining the list after a year off and Nice, France on the list for the first time since it started in 2015.
