The Swiss Army knife, both the one actually issued to Swiss soldiers and the millions of variations carried by users around the world, are about to be joined by a unique addition: Knives with no knife blade.
Victoriknox, the maker of the trademark-branded multi-bladed tools, has announced a new bladeless line intended for people living in places or situations where carrying a blade is illegal, but who still need their pliers, tweezers, pipe reamers, screwdrivers, wire strippers, can opener, saw and who knows how many other tools.
Victoriknox’s, originally the Karl Elsener Company, has been making the knives since 1891, and more recently absorbed Wenger, the other licensed maker. The CEO, Carl Elsener, is the great grandson of the founder. He told interviewers that the new line would not replace existing models, but would “ensure you are best prepared through smart and masterful solutions for any life situation.”
And yes, that is a real one in the picture. It is the Champ XXL, 73 functions, 3/4 of a pound and $394.99 on Amazon
It becomes the “Swisss Army Tool”. No longer a knife.
