Waterton is the smallest of Canada’s four Rocky Mountain National Parks. It’s tucked into the southwestern corner of Alberta, abutting British Columbia and Montana. This is where the grasslands of the prairies meet the rugged Rocky Mountains. Together with the U.S.’s Glacier National Park, Waterton is part of the world’s first International Peace Park (1932). and is a very beautiful destination.
The most iconic landmark of Waterton National Park is The Prince of Wales Hotel. Built by the Great Northern Railway, the hotel sits on a hill overlooking the Waterton Lakes and Waterton village. The hotel opened in 1927 and is named in honor of the then Prince of Wales, Prince Edward. The hotel has been designated a National Historic Site of Canada.
Thank you for this post, which reminded me of a night’s stay at the Prince of Wales Hotel about 10 years ago. Many upmarket hotels look almost identical, but this one is definitely not. I attach a (rather dark) picture of the lobby, plus one of the spectacular view of Waterton Lake from the hotel, looking South towards the USA.
