Southwest: Take a new seat—later

Southwest Airlines is bragging about its new seats and their new features, and denying an earlier report that they had less padding, but you won’t get to test their claims for a while, because they’re going into planes to be delivered next year and beyond.

The new seats have, as if it mattered, a Southwest logo embedded in the seat. But they also have, and it does matter, two cupholders on the seat trays, giving a boost to the 10% of the world that’s lefthanded as well as to folks who want coffee and water. Also, catching up with the world, the new seats have both USB A and USB C outlets. A longer armrest and a bigger device holder round out the changes.

Southwest and the seat manufacturer Recaro caught some flak back in February when the first drawings of them appeared online and appeared to be thinner and flatter than they are in real life.
