A Barcelona restaurant, Disfrutar, run by three chefs who trained at a previous winner, has been named the world’s best by a British magazine, Restaurant, which cited it for its “far-reaching technique, original thinking and ground-breaking flavors.”
Disfrutar, whose name means ‘enjoy,’ was opened ten years ago. The chefs trained at El Bulli, in Roses, Spain, which topped the list five times over the years. Second place went to a Basque-country restaurant, Asador Etxebarri and third was awarded to Table de Bruno Verjus in Paris, a restaurant especially noted as one of the most expensive in the city.
The magazine, which has published a ’50 Best’ list since 2002, relies on a corps of more than a thousand voters around the world, chosen from among chefs, food writers and “well-traveled gourmets.”
