Amsterdam will be 750 years old next year, and it’s planning a big party that will last from this October through next October 2025. For now, it’s planned a few events and is asking the public to suggest more.
The gift-shaped kiosk in the picture above is touring the city asking for ideas. Program director Sietse Bakker told press that he wants more local ideas and sponsors: “Our aim is to get as many Amsterdammers as we can excited about the jubilee, and make them feel proud of the city.”
Already planned is a huge opening concert on October 27, an exhibition on the city’s history and a 15km-long party to take place on the city’s ring road, which will be closed for the occasion. There are also plans to ensure that stories and events about the city’s minority communities are included.
Food will feature in many of the events, and local food places have already created a new pastry and a new cheese.
