American Airlines, which in recent years has somewhat shrunk its presence at New York’s LaGuardia Airport is now adding flights to warm-weather destinations, mostly in Florida.
It’s one more after-effect of the court-ordered unraveling of what had been the Northeast Alliance of American Airlines and JetBlue. As part of that alliance, the two had stepped out of each other’s way in a number of markets, and JetBlue increased its flights from LaGuardia using slots ‘borrowed’ from American. The slots have now been reclaimed for the new flights.
All of the routes are ones that AA has flown at one point in the past. One route, to New Orleans, was last flown in 2008; Orlando, which will have two flights a day, last saw service in 2021. The new routes, which also include West Palm Beach and Sarasota, will operate starting in November.
