Cathedral of St. Pierre, Rabat, Morocco

While Morocco is predominantly a Muslim nation, there is a tolerance of other faiths.  Some of the most interesting architecture I saw during my trip to Morocco was in houses of worship.

When visiting Rabat, my guide made sure we stopped at St. Pierre Cathedral.  He was very proud of it because, as he stated, ‘it is a distinctly Moroccan building!’  And it is a beautiful structure.

St. Pierre Cathedral is located at Golan Square and was built and designed by the French.  Construction began in 1919 and it was inaugurated in 1921, with its two art deco towers added in the 1930s.  The church is still active, with mass celebrated every day. There is no admission fee.

I thought it a very interesting building with wonderful use of light and Moroccan features.  Worth going out of your way to see if possible.
