Signs of Morocco

Those who have followed TravelGumbo for a while likely have seen one of my prior blog posts on “signs.”  I’ve developed a fondness for studying the signage of the cities and countries I visit.  It might seem a little strange, but I’ve found that signs reveal a lot about the character of a destination.

Many signs are clever, and others downright funny.  For example, when I saw the road sign above (written in Arabic and Berber), I smiled and was relieved that someone else was doing the driving.  I’m sure my lack of familiarity with these languages would have been gotten me hopelessly lost when navigating the roads of Morocco.  The country has three main languages — French, Arabic and Berber.  English is growing in popularity as it is the international language of business.

Below is a gallery of some of the signs that caught my eye in various cities and roads throughout Morocco.  I hope you enjoy them:

Gumbo's Pic of the Day

The View North

I was visiting a friend, and this was the view from their house. I could understand why they built their house facing this direction. I was taken by the beauty!
