Ranks shuffle again for busiest airports

Familiar names top the International Airports Council’s list of 2023’s busiest airports—Atlanta, Dubai and Dallas-Fort Worth—but behind them London Heathrow moved up the list to reclaim its familiar spot at #4.

A number of other changes relate to 2022-23’s re-opening of air travel in Asia, the last area to regain post-pandemic numbers. The most dramatic shift was for South Korea’s Incheon which rose to 20th from #99, more than tripling its passenger total.

While Atlanta, with over 100 million passengers per year, is far above its Dubai’s 87 million, Dubai takes the crown for international passengers; nearly all of its passengers are arriving from or leaving to other countries. While Atlanta is an international hub for several airlines, most of its flights are domestic.
