An insurance company has teamed up with about 150 Dutch bars and restaurants to offer outdoor customers a ‘shot’ of SPF 30 sunscreen along with their food and drink orders.
The insurance company, Zilveren Kruis, or Silver Cross, had the shots made specially for the program, which is designed to remind people to protect themselves from harmful rays of the sun. Some research has said that 28% of skin cancers are caused by people getting sunburned on cafe terraces.
Some of the establishments are giving the sunscreen at no charge; they are allowed to sell it, but not to make a profit on it.
