Paris’s Orly Airport an Olympic winner

While thousands of athletes have spent the past two weeks competing for medals, Paris transit officials are awarding themselves one for finally giving Orly Airport a direct rail connection to the center of Paris.

Orly is now reachable on the Metro Line 14, Just in time for the Olympics, and one of the major transit projects based on the Games. Previously, arriving passengers had to either rely on taxis, or on a shuttle that took them to an RER regional express train that then required more connections in the city.

Line 14 serves several of the city’s main railroad and Metro hubs, including one that allows a connection to CDG, which took Orly’s place as the city’s main international air terminal in 1974. CDG is due for an enhanced direct rail connection, too, but that’s been delayed for several years.
