The Monte Carlo Casino, officially named Casino de Monte-Carlo, is a gambling and entertainment complex located in Monaco. It includes a casino, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, and the office of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. My husband and I were able to see it while spending a few days in Nice, France. We had a great time walking around and exploring this beautiful building.
One interesting note I wanted to share, is that citizens of Monaco are forbidden to enter the gaming rooms of the casino. This initiative was from Princess Caroline, the de facto regent of Monaco, who amended the rules on moral grounds, stating that casino was intended only for foreigners. For those who may be interested, the Casino de Monte-Carlo is owned and operated by the Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), a public company in which the government of Monaco and the ruling princely family has a majority interest. It is quite beautiful and definitely worth a visit while in the area.
