United Airlines has added a feature to its smartphone app that’s bound to be popular with travelers who have a seat preference that can’t be met when they first make a reservation.
The app now allows passengers to indicate their general preference—window, middle or aisle—or a preference for bulkhead seats or exit rows. With the new functionality, if a seat that matches your preference opens up before you fly, in the same class of service, United will automatically make the seat change.
So far, United says, the feature which debuted in March has resulted in good seat news for about 40% of travelers who used the option.
