Uber, which left Denmark seven years ago over new regulations for the taxi industry, has found a way for its app to return to the country next year with a partner company supplying the cars and drivers.
The company’s 2017 departure came in the wake of new rules requiring cars to have taxi meters, and to have seat occupancy detectors that are needed to trigger airbags in a crash.
Now Danish taxi operator Drivr will be the physical operator in Denmark for customers using the Uber app. Uber’s features such as being able to see the progress of your car approaching and to pay through the app will work as normal, although pricing will be based on the car’s meter.
“We have found the best of two worlds with a mobility giant providing a service no one else can and a local taxi company that follows Danish laws and knows the city and already has drivers on the street,” Drivr’s CEO told local press.
