It’s not that ducks are a special feature of Giverny, the small Normandy village where Monet made his him for four decades. It’s just that they were there, and I was there, and I have an affinity for birds, especially with nicely-colored ones.
I just liked their color and its contrast with the water in different light and against the stonework. I think Monet might have agreed with that, although only the last duck was on his land; the others were at the Museum of Impressionism, just a short walk down the road.
The beautifully colored ducks contrasting subtly with the light of the water and the rocky background at Giverny not only create a poetic scene but also evoke a simple and captivating beauty, surely Monet would agree with this charm.
