If New York has the Big Apple and New Orleans is the Big Easy, Portugal’s Evora region has the Biggest Bifana in the world, pending confirmation from Guinness World Records.
The more-than-15-meter-long sandwich made in the village of Vendas Novas on September 7 is now long-gone, devoured by a crowd of around a thousand who witnessed its construction and then shared it.
A local bakery produced the roll for the traditional marinated pork sandwich, with seven bifana restaurants collaborating on the filling. The town, celebrating its 62nd anniversary, says that “this feat is more than just a record attempt; it is a celebration of unity and the community spirit of Vendas Novas.”
Despite that disclaimer, however, Mayor Valentino Salgado Cunha now says “We achieved our goal and now, next year, we are eager to go further,” and speaks of “growing in terms of size.” Save the date…
