Amsterdam is on the verge of celebrating its 750th birthday with a months-long program of event, but it’s about €13 million short of the projected €42 million cost of the party, scheduled to start October 27.
But not to worry, a City Council spokeswoman told press; “We are not there yet but the fundraising efforts are continuing apace,” and she is sure the whole amount will be raised by the end of the jubilee year. The council kicked in an initial €27 million, with the rest to be privately raised, but that’s stalled at about €1.5 million now.
Among the opening events will be concerts, parades, the Amsterdam Marathon, and on June 21st the “biggest ever Dutch circle party” which will see the A10 motorway that circles the capital closed to traffic to allow all sorts of events to take place along the roadway.
Wow, that was amazing! Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary event certainly brought memorable experiences for everyone. Such rich and meaningful activities not only celebrate history but also bring the community together.
