One of the newest and most welcome buildings in Casablanca is its new Grand Theater, also known as CasArts. Construction began in 2013 and it is built to be a multipurpose theatre (concerts, plays, etc.). It is the largest theater in all of Africa. When I visited in January, it was still fenced off as final touches were being made, but it probably has opened by now.

The Theater is in busy Mohammed V Square in an historic neighborhood. It was designed by French architect, Christian de Portzamparc, who tried to make it resemble a medina.
The main hall of the theater has a capacity of 1800 people over two levels. An outdoor stage would accommodate about 35,000 people in the acreage in front of the building.
I think it is quite a lovely structure.
