Many of Paris’s Metro stations have decoration matching their location or history. This one, at Pont Neuf, is located near La Monnaie, the historic mint for French coins.
The minting of coins has moved elsewhere, and its former building, seen below, is now a museum of coins and metal, as well as the home of the famous Guy Savoy restaurant.
Also on hand in the station is one of the mechanical presses used to strike coins from metal blancs before modern manufacturing equipment.
