Driving past a restaurant near Mödling in Austria, we saw this huge pink vehicle sitting in its almost empty car park. We just had to pull in to take a closer look.
It turned out to be a Cadillac Series 62 from 1960.
Apart from being very pink, it also was very long—as the photo below clearly demonstrates.
I love the enormous tail fins. The next shot shows the inside.
The interior colour scheme suggests to me that the car was probably pink from the outset, but my wife disagrees.
Below are a few more photos, including a couple of close-ups of different parts:
A brief internet search reveals that this model has a massive 6.4l engine. I had to laugh when I saw this line on Wikipedia: “The 1960 Series 62 had smoother, more restrained styling.” Looking at images of the 1959 version, I can see the point—but ‘restrained’ is not a word one would use today to describe this design.
That big Caddy must be tough to drive in the narrow lanes of European cities. But it has class! I think you would look in that driver’s seat, Professor.
I certainly would not want to drive it around the lanes in our neighbourhood – but yes: it’s a classy car.I have it on good authority, incidentally – thanks Paul – that this shade of pink is not the original colour!
