We’re near the end of the year, one of the seasons often marked by awards in various categories, often so narrowly-defined that a magnifying glass or deep faith is needed to tell them apart.
Are we a bit skeptical of all these awards? You might say so. They are certainly useful marketing tools for the websites, publications and organizations that award them, and are good publicity for the recipients as well, but except for a few outliers, they have little practical meaning.
Today’s award announcements are from two websites that in themselves deserve awards for their consistent usefulness and service to travelers: Cruise Critic and The Points Guy. That said, it’s hard to follow or make use of categories such as Best Suite Complex, Best for Romance, Best for Light Expedition, Best New Points Hotel, Best New or Refreshed Credit Card (one of 12 card categories).
