Located between Cleveland and Akron, the 32,783-acre Cuyahoga Valley National Park welcomes guests to explore, learn Ohio and American history, and take a train ride through the woods past animals and a myriad of birds.
It was initially designated as a National Recreation Area in 1974 and redesignated as a national park in 2000. It is the only national park that originated as an NRA.
There is plenty to do here: hiking, fishing, biking, horseback riding, birding, kayaking, and golfing. But there’s more. Take leisurely walks along the Ohio and Erie Canal towpath, relax in nature, where wildlife is abundant, or ride on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad.
I recently visited this national park and was delighted with what I found. Even without a lot of time, I viewed nesting blue herons, walked on the towpath, saw a magnificent waterfall, and viewed several different birds and turtles sunning themselves.
