Marriott moving into ‘outdoor’ lodging

Marriott is joining fellow hotel giants Hilton and Hyatt into the Great Outdoors, or at least to simple lodgings near the outdoors with its acquisition of Postcard Cabins, a national network of ‘cozy cabins.’

Postcard Cabins has 29 locations, all within two hours of a major metropolitan area and many near national parks and other outdoor destinations. All feature private bathrooms and kitchens and are listed as ‘dog-friendly.’

Marriott has also added Trailborn, a boutique collection of small hotels that are outdoor-adjacent. Both will be bookable by next year through Marriott’s reservation system and will be connected to its Bonvoy loyalty scheme.

Earlier this year, Hilton signed up for a partnership with AutoCamp, which operates a network of sites using a mix of cabins, luxury tents and Airstream trailers, while Hyatt’s recently acquired Mr & Mrs Smith booking platform offers glamping through Under Canvas.
