Sweden’s Icehotel opens for 35th year

As if it weren’t cold enough in Sweden’s northern regions, guests are once again welcome to sleep in a hotel built of ice, with 12 art-themed suites for guests.

It’s a 35-year tradition in Jukksjarvi, Sweden. The first ice hotel opened in 1989, and is rebuilt each year using snow and ic from the Torne River. The hotel keeps a temperature of -5C.

Guests are offered multi-course Arctic dining experiences and snowmobile tours. With 12 art suites, one main hall and one ceremony hall, 26 artists from 13 countries worked to create the frosty art features
