Venice renews and extends its day-trip fee

Venice’s entry fee, the so-called ‘day-tripper tax’ will be back next year after a trial run this year. Next year is also labeled a trial, and will see the fee for visitors who are not staying in the city raised for some.

Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro says the tax helps the city cope with the costs of over-tourism as well as helping reduce crowding on popular days. Visitors who stay overnight in the city pay a charge through their accommodations; the day-trip fee is mainly focused on cruise passengers.

Like last year, the fee will be charged on weekends and special holidays. This year, the €5 fee will also apply to Fridays. Visitors who wait until the end to apply will be charged €10.

The new pilot will start on April 18 2025 and run until July 27, for a total of 54 days, an increase from 29 days last year.
