Situated on the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, across the canal from Piazza San Marco, sits this beautiful cathedral, one of the iconic symbols of Venice. The church was built by the Benedictine order between 1566 and 1610. Although a beautiful church it pales somewhat in comparison to majestic Basilica di San Marco, one of the greatest churches in the world.
These photos were taken from the edge of Piazza San Marco. The beautiful white-washed facade of the church seemed especially prominent in the light of the setting sun.
