One of the fun things I like about traveling is coming across the colorful characters that make visiting a particular destination interesting. Buskers are one of those types of characters and can be found in any town or city in all parts of the world. They are a good source of entertainment and always bring a smile to your face.
I found this busker in Republic Street, Valletta to be quite unique in his own way. Not only does he play the piano well, but he carries it in every morning on his two wheeled hand trolley! Whilst most buskers will carry in a guitar, fiddle, accordion or something similar that’s easy to transport, this guy goes to the trouble of carrying in his own upright piano. To me that shows dedication and I admire him for it. Like most buskers in any city though, he can only stay in a certain spot for a limited time. So every couple of hours or so he has to wheel his piano to another corner and tinkle his ivories once more for the passing spectators.
If only I had learnt to play a musical instrument I may have been able to join him. Where’s that harmonica someone gave me for Christmas many years ago?
He is not the only piano busker. Check out Colin Huggins in my blog today about Greenwich Village, here on TravelGumbo.
