The home of the popular vacation accommodation website Airbnb, San Francisco, is now considering legislation to make the de facto availability of short-term residential rentals legal. At present local law prohibits rentals of less than 30 days to facilities not licensed as short-term accommodations, no exceptions. Stories have been rife with tales of evicted renters whose neighbors complained and leases were terminated.
A law has now been introduced that will allow short-term rentals providing the owner or primary renter of the residence is living full-time on site.
