Not the best day for travelers in France, as air traffic controllers continue to strike, grounding hundreds of flights. Long-haul international flights continue, but domestic cancellations and shorter international flights are affected.
The controllers are striking over proposed loss of workplace protections and benefits; the government in turn claims that the unions are “reluctant to recognize the opportunities for Europe that the modernization of its air traffic management system presents.” Hmmm…
The controllers’ strike, timed as French holidays begin, is not the only one; some railway, healthcare and energy workers are also out, as are some of the staff at the Eiffel Tower. MORE
