Wearable technology finding a niche for air crews

More and more technology is coming in wearable form: watches from Apple and Samsung, Google Glass, and more to come. And airlines and other aviation companies are starting to see a place for it onboard.

Instead of using a wired phone to contact the cockpit, flight attendants could speak into their watches; passengers hitting the flight attendant button might have their calls directed to the closest crewmember (or, as the article on Runway Girl (HERE) ominously suggests, calls could be prioritized “allocating flight attendants to greater demand across cabins, prioritising requests from premium cabins, or flagging requests from high value customers holding high-tier status.”

On the ground end, Malaysian Airlines has incorporated Google Glass into its maintenance system, giving maintenance staff instant hands-free access to documentation, inventory, etc.
