Air travel is not the only place that rapidly-growing Chinese tourism is shaking up markets. Princess cruises, which began sailing cruises from Chinese ports last year, is so impressed with the market potential that it’s announced its newest ship will be based in Shanghai, starting in the summer of 2017.
The ship, still under construction in Italy and without a name yet, is based on the same design as its most recent (Royal Princess and Regal Princess), but many interior features will be altered to suit Chinese-market preferences. Just what the innovations will be will be announced soon, according to the company.
Princess is a division of Carnival, the largest cruise operator.
